About LottieEmbodying the Accent
“My journey into dialect coaching was a colourful one. I originally trained as an actor and, after a variety of jobs, found myself touring around Italy. One day our troupe stopped in Bologna, and I completely fell in love with the city – so much so that I decided to stay.
While living there, I learnt Italian and taught English as a foreign language. I worked in companies helping employees with their English presentations, which often involved focusing on their English pronunciation. I loved this aspect of the work and on my return to the UK five years later, I embarked on an MA in Professional Voice Practice to dive deeper into the world of speech.
I began teaching in drama schools, which led me to becoming Joint Head of Voice at Mountview. After some years I broke into the world of film and TV where I have been lucky enough to work with fantastic directors and producers and coach some of the best actors around.
My approach to dialect coaching is never ‘one size fits all’. I believe everyone learns differently, so I tailor each session to the actor, focusing on what they need to feel confident, connected, and fully grounded in their vocal choices. For me, an accent should never feel ‘put on’, but fully embodied. I love helping actors integrate voice and physicality so that their accent feels lived-in and authentic. I believe the process should be engaging and enjoyable, creating a space where actors can explore, take risks, develop their work with confidence and have fun along the way.”
